Keepin' it sweet: Hitting the ball on the sweet spot

By Blair MacGregor

A very simple piece of golf instruction is learning how to hit the ball on the sweet spot. Whenever you go to take a shot, you should always try to hit the golf ball on the sweet spot. Doing this on a consistent basis will cause the ball to fly straight without going off course.

Here are a few tips to help you develop a powerful,
straight shot.

Aim and alignment are important factors that you can
control before you swing. Even though you won't hit the
sweet spot every time, you can greatly increase your
chances if you improve your aim and alignment.

A good shot routine will help you to fine-tune these
crucial skills by forcing you to follow a procedure.

Before you begin a pre-shot routine, you must get behind
the ball. This is the only way you can clearly sight the
area you want to hit.

You can now begin to approach the golf ball with confidence
because you know for sure that you will hit it with perfect
aim and drive it for well over 200 yards. From then on,
this will be a straightforward process and you will
continue to keep that positive attitude everytime you step
up to the tee.

Now for the build up: place your hands on the club, keeping
the clubface square. Align your body nicely, checking that
your feet, thighs, hips and shoulders are all parallel.

Then, using the confidence you were able to gain before approaching
the ball, you should be able trust your own aim and alignment and subsequently execute
the perfect shot you envisioned. Even if you don't hit your shot
perfectly, you will more than likely send it flying close
to the 300 yard mark.

Putting together both your mental golf game and your physical
golf game will improve your overall game much
better than either could do alone and you'll be on the road to
golfing success in no time.
